Silverlake

About the project

This property is situated on a steep hillside. Major construction of a retaining wall separating two terraced areas preceded our work. The clients had certain design requirements and thankfully, also great taste, making the project both fun and fulfilling. Plant material needed to be carefully selected due to the narrow shape of each terrace. Low growing plants, spreaders and groundcovers were most suitable. Arizona flagstone was installed on the top level with adequate spacing between for a below ground drip system to be installed. This irrigated the multiple groundcovers allowing them to grow in a very unstructured and incidental pattern. Aluminum spit valves in the tubing allowed the water to flow freely and prevented back up. The idea of no boarders was encouraged, especially for the planter beds to keep the design natural and open. A stunning Italian style water feature was installed giving a Zen like feel to the space. The lower terrace was kept open to house two large custom made raised garden beds.
