Edwin Drive

About the project

This was a smaller but tricky project. The front area was very challenging due to its incredibly narrow shape and also because it is in blazing sun all day. There were several feet of rubble left from a previous remodel that had to be removed before we could implement any part of the install. We graded the area to allow for the removal of a staircase, replacing it with a slow incline. The client expressed that she would like the plant material to have a naturalistic almost woodland feel, so I choose plants such as yarrow, sweet lavender, crawling rosemary and multiple types of grasses to implement this. I suggested keeping the area very unstructured as a contrast to the strict modern lines of the home which she agreed to. We installed large pieces of antique Indian black stone flagstone to create a meandering walkway. We installed the flagstone directly into DG with no borders to keep the unstructured feel. An upright, water feature with protruding brass water pipes created a magical feel and the sound of cascading water also helped conceal street noise.
