Mulholland Drive

About the project

There were some beautiful existing mature cacti which we kept for dimension and height. We removed all other oversized plants and random planted groundcover. The main aim was to make the area become more cohesive and streamlined. This was accomplished by framing off several sections with custom welded Corten steel edging and creating pockets of outdoor rooms. We also built planted boxes with the same material to add different planting heights. Drip irrigation was added as the plants were being hand watered which was not a good option. Low voltage light installation also made for a stunning visual at night. The shell of the living wall had been installed but was not functional. The design and install of plant material was a 10-day experience but worth all the time and effort. I chose very small succulents and groundcovers to create a colorful and intricate design that would adapt well to the 2” x 2” pockets.
