Fryman Canyon

About the project

This property had a stunning view which was impeded by a twenty-year-old rusting wrought iron fence. I suggested replacing with a horizontal metal tension wire fence to open the space up and also the spectacular view. There were some structural issues with subsidence due to a gopher infestation that left massive holes and tunnels below the soil. We took a two-pronged attack by removing the fence in its entirety and installing a retaining block wall below the soil level to prevent any further erosion of soil. We installed the tension wire fence on top of the retaining wall. To prevent any further destruction from the gophers and falling soil levels I designed large concrete platforms with pebble spacers. We also installed cactus and new succulents to the adjacent area to make the design more cohesive. The hillside needed some TLC so more plant material was installed, a staircase for access and wood planters to hold back the soil. The planters were filled with rosemary to keep the gophers at bay.
